The relays and output terminals for misting and cooling are already fitted inside every Ectoscale 6 — including yours, whether you tick those boxes or not. If you want them later, nothing ships back to us and nothing gets opened. We activate the feature remotely and it's running within fifteen minutes.
One exception worth knowing now: the misting water sensor is fitted during assembly, so misting added later runs without dry-tank detection. If you think you may ever want misting, taking it today is the better path — see the FAQ below.
In every Ectoscale 6 — whatever you choose
These are not options. They are on the €219 Core and on the €399 Complete alike.
Failsafe 1 · Software cutoff
Firmware watches every probe and cuts all heating outputs the moment a zone exceeds its safe ceiling — independently of whatever the control loop thinks it is doing.
Failsafe 2 · Limp mode
If a probe fails or falls out, the thermostat doesn't guess and it doesn't quit. It falls back to a learned duty cycle so your animal keeps baseline heat while you get to it.
Failsafe 3 · Hardware cutoff
A master safety relay and a physical thermal switch that break the heater circuit with no firmware involved at all. It works even if the processor is dead.
Works when your internet doesn't
Full control from the cloud app, from a local web page on your own network, or from the thermostat's own WiFi hotspot if your router goes down. Nothing about husbandry stops because an ISP did.
Enclosure cooling + alerts
Active internal cooling protects the electronics, and Telegram alerts reach your phone for temperature spikes, probe failures and safety lockouts.

Can I really add features later?
Yes, and it's the ordinary path rather than a favour. The relays and terminals are already inside your
unit. You pay for the feature, we send the activation to your thermostat, and it picks it up within
fifteen minutes — or immediately, the next time it reconnects. The setting survives firmware updates and
factory resets. Nothing is opened, nothing is posted back to us.
That covers OphidianAI, the misting pump and the cooling zone. Heater 2 cannot be added after
manufacture, and misting added later arrives without its water sensor — both are explained below.
So you're shipping me hardware I paid for but can't use?
We're shipping you hardware that adds additional cost to us and that we'd rather you had than not. Building every board identically means one tested design, no chance of the wrong configuration reaching you, and a thermostat that can grow with your collection instead of being replaced by it. We'd rather tell you that plainly than have you discover two unused relays yourself and wonder what else we hadn't mentioned.
If I add misting later, do I get the water sensor?
No — and we'd rather be straight about it. The float switch is fitted at manufacture on units ordered with misting, because it lands on a terminal inside an enclosure that carries mains voltage. We won't ask you to open that. A misting upgrade still gives you full humidity-triggered control with run-time, cooldown and daily limits, but it cannot tell when the reservoir is empty, so you'll need to keep an eye on the tank. Dry-run protection is only available on units ordered with misting from the start, so if you think you'll ever want misting, ordering it now is the better path.
Is OphidianAI a subscription?
No. It is a one-time purchase, and there is no recurring charge of any kind anywhere in this product. If we ever change that for future hardware, it will not be applied retroactively to a unit you already own.
Why is Heater 2 different from the others?
Heater 2 needs hardware that has to be fitted and heat-tested at manufacture, so unlike the other features it cannot be switched on later. It can only be added at the time of your initial order. If there's any chance you'll run a second zone, it is easier to take it now.
What does the deposit cover, and when do I pay the rest?
New units take a 50% deposit now, with the balance charged before your unit ships. Expected shipping for this batch is Q4 2026.
Shipping is not included in the prices shown. It depends on where your unit is going and how heavy the final parcel is, so we quote it per order rather than averaging it into the price. Before your unit ships we'll confirm your delivery address and invoice the balance plus actual shipping together.
VAT depends on where your unit is going. Orders delivered inside the EU are charged VAT at the applicable rate; orders exported outside the EU are not charged EU VAT, but your own country may levy import duties or taxes when the parcel arrives, which are payable by you. Your final invoice shows exactly what applies to your order before you pay it.
